How to Transition from InfraWorks to Revit
Starting with Revit 2018, it is possible to import Navisworks coordination models, enabling the integration of InfraWorks models into Revit projects for seamless collaboration. Below are the detailed steps to achieve this workflow.
Step 1
First, export either a portion or the entire InfraWorks model as a 3D model. Navigate to Settings and Practical Tools > Export 3D Model. To preserve the model’s geographic location, make sure the user-defined offset is set to 0,0,0 before exporting to the FBX format.
Step 2
Open the exported FBX model in Navisworks. Ensure that the units of the Navisworks model match those of the FBX file exported from InfraWorks. To verify or change units in Navisworks, go to the Selection Tree, select the model, right-click, and choose Units and Transformations. Confirm that the X, Y, and Z coordinates align with those set in Step 1.
Step 3
Save the Navisworks model as an NWD coordination file.
Step 4
Geolocate the Revit model by importing the site plan DWG, which should share the same coordinate system as the InfraWorks model. A reliable method to ensure coordinate consistency between the site plan DWG and InfraWorks model is to open the InfraWorks model directly in Civil 3D.
Step 5
Use the Origin to Origin option to link the NWD coordination model from Step 3 to the Revit model. With Navisworks 2018, you can now view Revit 2018 models within the context of InfraWorks 2018 models, enabling the creation of comprehensive NWD coordination models.
