How to Create a Structural Beam Family in Revit

Creating a Revit Structural Framework Beam Family

1. Select Family Template

Choose the template named “Metric Structural Framework – Beams and Supports.rft”.

2. Set Family Category and Parameters

Open the Family Category and Parameters dialog box. Under Symbolic Representation, enable the option Show in Hidden View.

3. Define Family Types and Parameters

Add three parameters named b, h, and h1 to define the family types.

4. Create Reference Planes

Draw reference planes, then annotate and assign parameters accordingly.

5. Draw the Model Shape

a. Use the Layout Fusion command to draw the reference path first.

b. Draw Outline 1.

c. Draw Outline 2.

d. Review the completed beam model.
