Why Doesn't Revit Automatically Align System Families When Loading Them into a Project?

Why Can’t Revit Align the Family Properly When Loading System Families into a Project?

When placing furniture in a project, it’s common to select the family edge and move it to the desired position. However, some system families (such as desks) only allow alignment or movement based on the family’s center point once loaded into the project.

So, how can you enable alignment and movement of system families based on specific reference points rather than just the center?

Step 1: Open the family and click Family > Edit Family.

Step 2: In the family editing environment, select all the reference plane lines using your mouse.

Step 3: In the properties panel, check the box for Strong Reference, as shown in the image below.

Step 4: Load the family back into your project.

You can now use the alignment and move tools to position the system family accurately based on the selected reference planes.
