Anagram architects have completed a residential project in New Delhi, showcasing a minimalist material palette combined with an extensive greenery scheme. The “Outward Bound House” is a six-story building designed to bridge the gap between material manufacturing and usage. This includes features such as customized concrete formwork, flooring, curved joinery, and rhythmic masonry. These handcrafted elements overcome the typical constraints of vertical structures, explained the architects.

Responding to the rigid urban environment, Anagram architects designed a curved structure that smoothly transitions between open, fluid spaces and enclosed rooms. The design team further explained, “Urban landmarks and their volume controls have addressed the problem of linearity in the simplest way possible.” However, this approach often results in spatial segregation due to the inability to customize construction, as real estate demand fuels the prevalence of cookie-cutter apartment floor plans stacked vertically.

This building’s design harmonizes with nature by incorporating vegetation, re-establishing the connection between architecture and the natural environment, setting it apart from typical industrial constructions. The façade features a blend of wooden blinds and vertically installed flower pots, creating a rooftop garden lush with trees and diverse plants. This serene green space offers residents a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle.
