How to Use Nested Families to Create Embedded Wall Trims in Revit
When working on wall decorations, you may sometimes need to embed decorative elements directly into the main structure. Using wall trims as an example, this guide will show you how to create nested families that automatically integrate with the host wall.
To begin, select a metric standard template to design the wall trim style.
Since wall trims can vary in length, width, and height depending on the host wall, it’s important to parameterize these dimensions for flexibility.
This approach allows you to create a fully parametric wall trim family.
Next, use a surface-based metric template to create a hollow cutting family. Ensure that its length, width, and height parameters correspond to those of the wall trim family.
Then, load the wall trim family into the hollow cutting family and use the Associate Family Parameters tool to link their parameters, effectively nesting the families.
Finally, load the nested family into your project and test it out.
This setup allows the decorative elements to embed seamlessly into the host wall, with all parameters easily adjustable.
