How to Slim Down Revit Project Files
Imagine a project containing 100 door families, but only 20 are actually used in the model. The remaining 80 families remain stored in the project file, even though they do not appear in the design. When there are many unused families like this, the model may seem light in content, but the project file size remains large.
To reduce the file size and improve performance, you can use the Clear Unused Items feature.
The process is as follows:
Step 1: Navigate to Manage > Clear Unused Items. This will display a list of views, families, and other elements that can be safely removed from the current project.
Step 2: This tool does not allow you to clear objects currently in use. Review the listed families and determine which ones you no longer need or plan to use in the future, then select the items you want to remove.
Step 3: Click Confirm to remove all selected unused objects from the project.
Note: Saving the project file after extended use can also help reduce its size.
