How to Fill the Surface of an Object in Revit
When working in Revit, filling a specific area can enhance the visual appeal of your drawings. Here’s how to do it:
1. Navigate to the view where you want to apply the fill, such as a plan or elevation view. For example, to fill the surface of a cabinet, use the view shown in the illustration.
2. In the Revit interface, go to the Annotate tab and select Region, then choose Fill Area. Draw the area you want to fill, as demonstrated in the image.
3. After drawing the fill area, choose the desired fill pattern from the type properties, as shown in the figure.
4. For instance, to simulate a wooden surface, select the appropriate fill pattern according to the standards. The final result looks like the example in the image.
5. If the built-in fill patterns do not meet your requirements, you can import custom .pat files to create new fill patterns. This is done similarly to editing materials in the material library.
To import a .pat file:
- Click on the ellipsis (…) next to the Fill Style option in the Type Properties panel, as shown in the image.
- In the Fill Patterns dialog box that appears, click New.
- In the New Fill Pattern dialog, click Browse, as illustrated.
- Select the desired .pat file from your computer in the Import Fill Styles dialog and click Open to complete the import, as shown in the figure.
- Choose the imported fill pattern, adjust the scale ratio as needed, then click OK. The applied effect will be displayed as in the example.
Note: This process helps create drawings that are both visually appealing and compliant with design standards.
