How Revit Counts the Number of Floor Construction Layers
In Revit, it is possible to export detailed information and count the quantity of components separately by model object. This is especially useful when you need to quantify a specific material, such as floors that have multiple construction layers or various decorative finishes. To achieve this, the Material Extraction function is used.
(1) Navigate through the menu: View > Schedule & Quantities > Material Takeoff. In the New Material Takeoff dialog box, select the category for the material extraction schedule, then click the OK button.
(2) In the Material Takeoff Properties dialog, you can add multiple material-related parameters. Choose the desired fields and add them to the schedule on the right side.
(3) Once configured, you can manage the schedule view, where the material extraction schedule will be displayed within the Schedules/Quantities section.
(4) The material takeoff schedule functions similarly to other schedule views but provides more detailed information about the materials of the objects. When Revit calculates the material volume for each floor, it performs an approximate calculation to maintain performance. As a result, small discrepancies may occur between the visible volume in the model and the volume shown in the material takeoff schedule.
