Preparing CAD Drawings Before Creating Revit Projects
Have you ever noticed your software lagging after importing a CAD drawing? Let me share a method that can help. This is a drawing I encountered while working on a project.
When I initially imported the entire CAD file into Revit, the software became very slow, buffering every action. So, how did I manage to proceed? A friend taught me a useful technique: splitting the drawing into smaller sections. Dividing the entire drawing into multiple areas significantly improves performance.
Below, I will guide you through a quick and efficient way to segment your drawings without losing any content. The method is quite simple — it involves using the “Write Block” command to partition the drawings.
Start by clicking on ‘CAD’ and then selecting ‘Insert’ from the menu. Choose the “Write Block” command, or simply use the shortcut key W. The system will then display the following dialog box.
After setting the save location, the most important step is to select either “Convert to Block” or “Remove” from the graphic options.
Finally, select the objects you want to write as a block and confirm your choice. Once the block is created, delete the original elements in the drawing and repeat this process as needed.
