Configuring Elevation Point Settings in Revit

Using Revit Elevation Points to Set Elevations

Working with elevation points in Revit is not complicated and generally fulfills our elevation requirements. Most issues arise from some specific settings.

Typically, the most commonly used option is the one mentioned earlier. However, you should also explore the submenu options available this afternoon.

The options in this submenu are useful, but keep in mind that only when the leader line is selected can the horizontal line be enabled. In MEP, the elevation point is equivalent to the base level and appears to be used directly; however, in RST, it is displayed in gray.

On the left side of the graphic element properties panel, you will find settings for upward deviation and related parameters. Since these settings are part of the graphic element properties, they mainly control how the current elevation point is displayed and can be adjusted both before and after placement.

Additional display settings can be configured in the type properties.

Within the submenu options, under “Display Elevation,” there are several choices available. When you select to display both top and bottom elevations, two rows of elevation points will appear. In the type properties, you can customize indicators for the top and bottom (translation unclear), as well as elevation indicators. This involves adding labels in the type properties, introducing the concept of an elevation point prefix.

It is important to understand the command found in the type properties called “Rotate with Component.” In the first image, this option is disabled, while in the following image, it is enabled, showing how the elevation point rotates along with the component.
