How to Add Borders to Volume Openings in Revit

How to Add Borders to Volume Openings in Revit

When you create an opening in a volume, you may sometimes need to add a border around that opening. Below, I will guide you through the steps to add borders to openings in Revit.

1. After creating the hole in the volume, use the Point tool located in the Draw panel to add a point on the contour line where you want the border.

2. Set a reference plane for this point so that it is perpendicular to the contour line.

3. On this reference plane, draw a rectangle to define the border shape.

4. Edit the rectangle’s outline, including applying chamfers as needed to the corners.

5. Use the Tab and Ctrl keys to select both the border contour and the opening’s contour line, then create a solid form from these shapes.

6. Apply filters to select the border and assign materials to it according to your design requirements.

7. Once all steps are complete, click the Finish button to finalize the border.

Note: The border created with this method is integrated with the volume. Therefore, if you hide or delete the volume, the border will also be hidden or deleted.
