Embedding Lookup Tables into Family Files in Revit: A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Embed Lookup Tables into Family Files in Revit

The absence of lookup tables can cause Revit family files to malfunction, preventing proper parameterization. Therefore, when transferring a family file that uses a custom lookup table—or a project file containing such a family—to another computer, it’s essential to copy the corresponding lookup table file to the system’s default directory. This ensures that the family files function correctly with all parameters.

Step 1: Select the family file you want to add or modify the lookup table for, then click Edit the Family.

Step 2: Click the Family Types command. In the Family Types dialog box, locate and click the Manage Lookup Tables button in the bottom right corner.

Step 3: In the Manage Lookup Tables dialog box, click Import and select the lookup table you want to add. The imported lookup table will appear in the list on the left side.

Step 4: To edit an imported lookup table, use the Export command to save the lookup table as a CSV file. You can then edit it using a text editor and re-import it to overwrite the existing table.
