The Application of Shape Manipulators in Revit
Let’s explore how to create a simple circular conduit component family—such as a water or electrical conduit—using Revit software. This example demonstrates how to incorporate shape manipulation handles into your design.
First, create a circular sleeve component with the parameters shown in the figure: radius r1, radius r2, height h, and other instance properties.
In the front elevation view, select the blue corner grip on the centerline of the circular sleeve. Stretch the upper and lower points back to the reference plane line. A small lock icon will appear, indicating that the points are locked vertically.
Next, load the circular sleeve family into your project. Display it in a section view, then flip the view to observe that the sleeve has two shape control handles—one at the top and one at the bottom.
Note that if all the above parameters are set as type properties, the casing family will not display shape handles once loaded into the project.
