How to Fix Automatic Cutting Issues of Beams and Columns in Revit

How to Resolve Automatic Cutting Issues with Beams and Columns in Revit

Revit Modeling

When beams intersect, you might encounter situations where they do not cut automatically as expected.

Similarly, in projects where columns intersect with beams made of the same material (such as precast concrete), automatic cutting may also fail to occur. See Figure 1 below for reference.

Figure 1

To address this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Select the beam you want to edit, then open the Attributes dialog box. Locate the option labeled Hollow cut during loading and check its box. (Refer to Figure 2.) After enabling this, reload the project.

  1. Alternatively, you can go to the Modify tab, click on the Cut dropdown menu, and choose the appropriate geometric shape to perform the cut. (See Figure 3.)

Note: If your project contains multiple unattached voids, all of these voids will participate in the cutting process.
