Automatic Cutting Issues with Beams and Columns in Revit
Revit sometimes encounters difficulties when beams intersect during modeling, preventing automatic cutting from occurring.
Similarly, in projects where columns intersect with beams, there can be cases where direct cutting is not possible. (Note: All elements are made of the same material—precast concrete.)
After making adjustments, the results shown in the following figure can be achieved.
Here are the test results and some additional insights:
Loading Rectangular Beams
When prefabricated rectangular beams and prefabricated rectangular columns were loaded, it was observed that automatic cutting did not occur between the columns and beams.
Reason: The selected setting “Materials used for model behavior” must be set to “Concrete”. This is independent of the material used for the actual entity.
Editing the Column Family and Reducing Its Size
Modify the “Materials used for model behavior” in both the column and beam families to “Concrete”.
Then, reload the families back into the project.
Additional Knowledge: Cutting with Hollow Spaces in Families During Loading
- In the Family Category and Parameters dialog box, select “Hollow cut during loading” and click “Confirm”.
- Under the Modify tab, in the Geometric Shapes panel, use the Cut dropdown list to select the geometric shapes to cut.
Note: If an instance contains multiple unattached voids, all of these voids will participate in the cutting process.
