How to Create Diagonal Columns in Revit and Convert Vertical Columns to Diagonal
In Revit, there are times when you need to draw diagonal columns. So, how do you create diagonal columns? Is it possible to edit existing vertical columns to make them diagonal? Below is a simple guide to help you:
1. Locate the Structural Panel and click on Column. See Figure 1 for reference.
2. After clicking, you will automatically enter the Modify/Place Structural Columns mode. Select the diagonal column type and draw it as shown in Figure 2.
3. Once the diagonal column is initially placed, select its properties and enable the Top/Bottom Slope Style. Then adjust the vertical orientation to horizontal, as illustrated in Figure 3.
4. To convert a vertical column into a diagonal column, select the column and open its properties. Under Column Style, adjust the tilt angle or endpoint control, and enable Top/Bottom Slope Style to change the vertical orientation to horizontal (see Figure 4).
5. Using the floor plan as a reference, select the diagonal column and drag its top or bottom to the desired position according to your project requirements. If needed, you can create a reference plane to accurately determine the position.
