Quick and Easy Ways to Change Wall Materials in Revit

How to Quickly Change Wall Materials in Revit

When working on civil engineering models in Revit, setting materials is crucial—especially for interior design. Typically, materials are adjusted through the Edit Type section in the wall properties panel. However, this method can be cumbersome when you need to change materials frequently. So, how can you quickly update wall materials in Revit?

Step 1: Open your model and select the wall you want to modify. Then, navigate to the Modify tab. In the Geometry panel, choose the Paint tool or simply press the shortcut key PT.

Step 2: After activating the Paint command, a material selection box will appear.

In the search box, type Paint to filter materials. For example, if you want to replace the interior wall material with yellow paint, select the Yellow Paint option.

Step 3: Click on the chosen yellow paint material, then click on the wall you want to update. The material will be applied automatically!

Notes:

1. You can quickly select other materials to replace the existing one.

2. To revert to the original material, click the Clear icon located at the corner of the Paint tool panel.

3. Changing the material with the Paint tool does not affect the parameters found under Wall Properties > Edit Type. If you want to permanently assign a new material, make sure to update it there as well.
