Mastering Complex CAD Base Drawings and Efficient Shape Creation in Revit

How to Quickly Interpret Complex CAD Base Drawings and Generate Shapes in Revit

During the architectural design process, refining a building’s form often starts with drawing approximate dimensions in CAD. These drawings can then be imported into Revit to create the building’s shape. However, when dealing with buildings that have complex appearances, importing CAD into Revit and accurately interpreting the base drawings can become quite challenging.

Here’s a simple workflow to handle this efficiently:

1. Begin by drawing the building’s outline in CAD, ensuring that the frame is completely closed.

2. Next, while editing a sketch in Revit, create a stretch and import the prepared CAD drawing. Revit will automatically recognize the CAD base and generate corresponding sketch lines.

3. Finally, carefully check the sketch lines for any overlaps, gaps, or intersections, and make necessary adjustments to complete the stretching process.
