How to Export from Revit to Navisworks When Geometry Is Missing

BIM Software Tip: Exporting from Revit to Navisworks 2015 When Suitable Geometric Shapes Are Not Found

Question:

An error message appears: “No suitable geometric shapes were found.” When exporting Revit models to Navisworks 2015, the export to NWC format fails. Additionally, your model has been upgraded to the 2015 version.

Solution:

This issue is often caused by hollow sections within regular model families, which can prevent Revit models from exporting correctly to NWC files.

To resolve this, you can remove the gaps in the family by following these steps:

  1. Open the model in Revit 2015.
  2. Select the family containing the hollow areas and open it in the Family Editor.
  3. Remove the hollow wall decorative strips.
  4. Reload the modified family back into the project.
  5. Try exporting the model again as an NWC file via the Revit ribbon: R Button > Export > NWC.

After these steps, the export should complete without any issues.

Alternatively, you can attach the .rvt files directly to Navisworks without converting to NWC.
