AutoCAD Fails to Import SketchUp Files

BIM Software Tip: AutoCAD Does Not Support Importing SketchUp Files Directly

Reason:

There is a known issue when using certain SketchUp import plugins with older or incompatible SKP files. Specifically:

• SketchUp Import is compatible with AutoCAD 2014 and 2015 versions only.
• SketchUp Import 2013 works with AutoCAD 2013 products.

This issue did not occur with older SketchUp versions, such as SketchUp 8.0 (build 16846).

Solution:

To resolve this, save your SketchUp files using a newer version of SketchUp (starting from version 13.0, build 3689) and select “Save as type” to specify the SketchUp version 8.0 format.

After saving in this format, you can successfully import the file into AutoCAD-based products.
