BIM Software Tips: How to Share Tool Palettes Between Different AutoCAD Versions
When working with multiple AutoCAD versions or collaborating with other users, it’s essential to share your tool palettes effectively. You can do this by exporting and importing the palettes using XTP files.
How to Export Tool Palettes:
Follow these steps to save your tool palettes:
- Launch AutoCAD.
- Type
TOOLPALETTESin the command line and press Enter. - Right-click on any tool palette.
- Select Customize Tool Palettes.
- In the left pane, right-click the specific tool palette you want to export.
- Choose Export….
- Save the palette as an
.XTPfile.
How to Import Tool Palettes:
To load the saved tool palettes into another AutoCAD version or computer:
- Copy the previously created
.XTPfile to the target device. - Launch AutoCAD on the target computer.
- Enter
TOOLPALETTESin the command line. - Right-click on any tool palette and select Customize Tool Palettes.
- In the left pane, right-click and choose Import….
- Select the
.XTPfile to import the tool palette.
This process ensures that your custom tool palettes, including their functionality and unlocked icon display, are transferred seamlessly across different AutoCAD versions and computers.
