BIM Software Tip: Managing Backup Quantity When Saving in REVIT
When saving a project in REVIT for the first time, you will notice an option in the save dialog box to set the number of backup copies to keep.
By default, many projects retain around 20 backup files. You may see these backups in your project folder—they share the project’s filename but include numbered suffixes. While having multiple backups can be helpful, storing too many consumes significant disk space and can clutter your folder, making it harder to locate the main project files.
To maintain a cleaner workspace and save storage, it is advisable to reduce the number of backup copies in the save dialog box. Typically, setting this number between 3 and 5 backups strikes a good balance between safety and efficiency.
