BIM Software Tip: AutoCAD Does Not Retain One or More Settings After Restart
Issue:
Each time AutoCAD is launched, any changes made to options or user interface elements—such as toolbars, palettes, or ribbons—revert to their default values or the last saved settings. This means your customizations do not persist between sessions.
Cause:
This problem is often caused by corrupted configuration files within AutoCAD. Additionally, damage or loss in the user folder or registry settings can prevent AutoCAD from saving your preferences properly.
Solution:
To ensure AutoCAD retains your settings, try one or more of the following steps:
- Change the active profile under the Profile tab in AutoCAD’s Options.
- Disable any custom VBA or LISP scripts you may have added to AutoCAD.
- Configure AutoCAD to run as an administrator. (Refer to How to set up programs to run as an administrator.)
- Disable User Account Control in Windows. (See How to disable User Account Control in Windows.)
- Reset AutoCAD to its default settings, then reapply your custom settings or workspace changes.
