BIM Software Tip: AutoCAD crashes when toggling dual graphics card settings
Solution:
To fix this issue, configure AutoCAD to use the primary (dedicated) graphics card. On some laptops, the integrated Intel graphics can be disabled through the BIOS settings. In most cases, you can set AutoCAD to run on the dedicated GPU using the video driver software from NVIDIA or AMD. Follow the steps below:
NVIDIA Graphics Card:
1. Update to the latest video driver here.
2. Right-click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
3. In the View menu, enable Add to Context Menu to access the option Run with graphics processor.
4. Right-click on the AutoCAD shortcut or executable, then select Run with graphics processor > NVIDIA high-performance processor.
AMD Enduro Graphics Card:
1. Update to the latest video driver here.
2. Right-click on the desktop and open Catalyst Control Center (or Configure Switchable Graphics).
3. Navigate to the Power or Switchable Graphics tab, usually found on the left side.
4. If AutoCAD is listed, set its graphics mode to High Performance. If it’s not listed, use the Browse button to locate and select the acad.exe file manually.
5. Click Apply to save your settings.
