How to Fix Rainbow Lighting Effects in Revit Renderings

BIM Software Tip: How to Fix the Rainbow Effect in Revit Rendering Lighting

Question:

When using Revit rendering with lighting based on absolute photometry IES files, the lights display raindrop-like artifacts instead of the correct lighting effect.

Cause:

This issue occurs because the light source uses an absolute photometry method in the IES file.

Solution:

To ensure proper rendering of lights, the IES files should not use absolute values. Specifically, the second digit in the IES file string, which is currently -1, must be replaced with the actual measured lumen value. This change should be made using a plain text editor like Notepad to avoid formatting issues (do not use Word). After editing, make sure not to import the lights into any rendering program without this correction.
