BIM Software Tip: How to Fix Crashes When Accessing the Material Editor in Revit
Common causes of this issue include:
1. The latest update is not installed.
2. Insufficient available memory.
3. Graphics card drivers are outdated or not properly authenticated.
4. Hardware acceleration is enabled.
5. Conflicts with third-party applications.
6. Using template projects from earlier versions of Revit with Revit 2015.
Solutions:
The following methods have successfully resolved these issues:
1. Install the latest updates for Revit.
2. Ensure your system has sufficient memory that meets the minimum requirements.
3. Verify that your graphics card drivers are certified and up to date.
4. Disable hardware acceleration by navigating to R > Options > Graphics > Hardware Acceleration and unchecking the option.
5. Disable all third-party applications to prevent conflicts.
To disable third-party applications and simplify your system startup for troubleshooting, follow these steps:
I. Press and hold the Windows key and then press the letter R to open the Run dialog box. (The Windows key is located to the left of the Ctrl and Alt keys on your keyboard.)
II. Type msconfig and press Enter.
III. In the General tab, if Normal Startup is not already selected:
a. Review each tab carefully to note which items are selected or unselected.
b. Select the Normal Startup radio button.
IV. Go to the Startup tab and click Disable All.
V. Switch to the Services tab, check the box to Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable All. After that, re-enable Autodesk licensing services and, if available, re-enable FLEXnet licensing services.
VI. Click OK and restart your computer when prompted.
Note: After modifying the Startup and Services tabs, the General tab will show Selective Startup as selected. Once troubleshooting is complete, restore the system to its original state by selecting Normal Startup in the General tab. If the system does not fully return to normal during startup, revert any changes made in the other tabs to their previous settings.
