BIM Software Tip: How to Fix Missing Content on the Revit Ribbon Over Time
Issue:
The ribbon tabs and all ribbon panels are missing from the Revit interface.
Solution:
If this problem occurs frequently, try adjusting the Revit options to determine whether it relates to system or graphics resource issues. For example, if hardware acceleration is disabled and the problem worsens, it likely indicates a system resource issue. Conversely, if the problem improves or disappears, it may be related to graphics.
Note that there were no official fixes for these issues in Revit versions 2012, 2013, and 2014.
If you encounter ribbon problems, the first step is to download and install the latest version of .NET Framework 4.5 to ensure proper functionality.
Another common cause involves workstations with multiple displays or large monitors set to high resolutions. Revit defaults to using the primary monitor, but issues become more pronounced when running Revit on a secondary monitor. These problems also frequently occur when floating the Project Browser or Properties palette outside the main Revit window.
To address this, make sure the monitor DPI scaling is set to 100% via Control Panel > Display on the primary Revit monitor. Additionally, keep the Project Browser and Properties palette docked within the main Revit window to avoid related issues.
