BIM Software Tip: How to Export an Older Version of an NWC File Using the NWCOUP Command
Question:
Is it possible to export NWC files using the Navisworks exporter plugin from earlier file versions installed in Autodesk applications like AutoCAD?
Example:
Try creating a 2014 NWC file from AutoCAD 2015, then attempt to open it in AutoCAD 2015 using the 2014 Exporter for AutoCAD.
Issue:
The 2014 exporter lacks forward compatibility and does not support 2015 applications. When installing the 2014 exporter, the 2015 Autodesk applications will not be listed as supported. As a result, you cannot save 2015 NWC files as 2014 NWC files.
Solution:
You can open the 2015 NWC file in Navisworks 2015, then use the Save As feature to save the file in the 2014 NWD format.
This method also works for saving files down to the 2014 version, enabling other users with Navisworks 2014 to open and work with the 2014 NWF files.
Suggestion:
Save the 2015 NWC file as a 2014 NWD file for users running Navisworks 2014. If you need to work with NWF files in both 2015 and 2014 versions, use Save As to save the NWF files in the 2014 format.
