In typical REVIT workflows, when an independent foundation is added beneath a column, it automatically becomes linked to the bottom of that structural column. Consequently, if the elevation of the column’s bottom changes later, the foundation elevation updates accordingly, as illustrated below:

This dynamic connection, where the column can move at any time, is sometimes undesirable.

Here are some tips to separate the foundation from the column bottom. Keep in mind that the foundation’s top elevation should never exceed the column bottom elevation when making adjustments.

The first method involves directly modifying the foundation’s elevation and offset values, as demonstrated in the image below:

The second method is to select the foundation and cut it. When pasting, choose to align it with a specified elevation, then paste it onto a different elevation as needed.
