BIM Software Tip: How to Create Curved Curtain Wall Panels in Revit
As many of you know, the default panel family included with curtain walls does not support curvature. However, if you need curved curtain wall panels, you must create a custom panel family yourself. In this guide, I will explain the steps to create curtain wall panels with curvature.
The first step is to select the appropriate family template. The recommended choice is Metric Curtain Wall Panels. Although this is the preferred option, you can also use other templates such as Metric Door Curtain Wall or Metric Window Curtain Wall if you prefer.
Next, you need to create the necessary components. Start by adding an offset to the panel, which should be set as a parameter for each panel type. When creating components, make sure to use the newly created reference plane as the modeling work surface.
Now, let’s move on to creating the curved panels. I will demonstrate how to create a panel with an adjustable arc radius using layout tools.
Select the tool shown in the image, then draw an arc with one endpoint at the intersection of the reference planes. Use the alignment command to lock this endpoint in place and add a radius parameter to control the curve.
Switch to the elevation view to create the panel’s outline. Add parameters for thickness, then click Finish and assign material parameters to complete the setup.
