BIM Software Tip: Seamlessly Combine Revit with 3ds Max Rendering
Process Overview: This guide explains how to export building models from Revit Architecture to Autodesk 3ds Max for high-quality rendering. Start by selecting the building’s 3D view in Revit Architecture, then export its geometry and data as a DWG file. Next, link the DWG file into a new 3ds Max scene.
1. Click on the File menu, then choose Export > CAD Formats.
2. In the Export dialog box, open Export Options. Select Solid (this option applies only to 3D views), then choose Export as ACIS Entity. Click OK to confirm. This exports the 3D elements as ACIS solids or as 3D objects composed of multiple faces.
If you export as a polygon mesh, each element becomes an object made up of interconnected polygons. For optimal results when exporting DWG files for use in 3ds Max, it is recommended to export the building model as ACIS solids.
3. In the File Naming section, make sure to select both Automatic and Long File Name (specify prefix for all exports). When these options are enabled, the File Name will automatically combine the dataset name with the corresponding view name.
