Understanding the Differences Between 3D and 2D Grids in Revit

BIM Software Tip: Understanding the Difference Between Revit Grid 3D and 2D

After experimenting extensively with my project recently, I finally uncovered the key difference between 3D and 2D grids in Revit. I’d like to share my findings with you!

The main distinction between Revit’s 2D and 3D grids lies in how they affect different levels or planes within your model. Take a look at the explanation below:

If the grid is defined as 3D information, moving the grid on one elevation will simultaneously move it on all other elevations. For example, adjusting the grid at elevation 1 will also shift it at elevation 2.

On the other hand, if the grid is set as 2D information, moving it at elevation 1 affects only that specific elevation. The grid on elevation 2 remains unchanged when you move the grid at elevation 1.
