BIM Software Tip: Combining Rotation and Layout in Revit Massing
We are all familiar with the geometric creation tools available for 3D components, including stretching, layout, fusion, optional installation, and layout fusion. But how do these five tools apply to massing? I won’t go into too much detail about stretching, blending, or layout, as most users are already comfortable with these in mass design.
Instead, I will focus on the fusion of rotation and layout in mass design. Here is how to perform these operations:
1: Rotation
Similar to typical rotation operations, you first draw the contour line, then define the rotation axis. One key point to note is that the rotation axis must be longer than the contour line. This is illustrated in the figure below:
2: Layout Fusion
Layout fusion in massing requires a reference line that defines the layout path. Next, draw two contour lines at both ends of this reference line. Finally, select the reference line and the two contours at each end to create the shape. The process is demonstrated in the figure below:
