How to Create a Revit Family for Variable Cross-Section Steel Beams

BIM Software Tip: How to Create a Revit Family for a Variable Cross-Section Steel Beam

1. Start by creating a new structural framework template. Remove any unnecessary elements from the template to keep it clean and focused.

2. Draw two reference planes and add two parameters to control them. Then, use the layout command to sketch a small cross-section and assign parameters to it. Repeat this process to create a large cross-section, also with appropriate parameters.

3. Use the layout fusion command to generate a shape with a variable cross-section. Add parameters as needed, and adjust them to test and confirm the family’s accuracy and functionality.
