BIM Software Tip: How to Display 3D Models by Floor in Revit
In a multi-story building, Revit’s default 3D view shows the entire building’s 3D model across all floors (see Figure 1). But how can you display the 3D model of just one specific floor, as shown in Figure 2?
Here’s the solution:
1. Right-click on the View Cube while in 3D view mode.
2. In the pop-up menu, hover over Directional to View.
3. Then, hover again over Floor Plan and select the floor you want to display.
4. For example, if you select Floor Plan: 3F, the result appears as shown in Figure 6.
From the image, you can see some windows are cut off. This happens because, in the floor plan view Floor Plan: 3F, the top of the view range is set to 2300 (see Figure 7), while the actual height of the third floor is 3900 (see Figure 8).
By adjusting the View Range, you can change the display range for the 3D model on that floor. For instance, if you increase the top offset to 3500 (as shown in Figure 9), the 3D model for the third floor will update accordingly, as shown in Figure 10.
Note: After adjusting the View Range, you will need to repeat steps 1 to 3 to refresh the 3D model display.
