BIM Software Tip: Emergency Plan for Editing Permissions in Revit Worksets
When collaborating in Revit, multiple users work together on the same project. But what happens if a colleague leaves and you need to edit their graphical components without having the proper permissions? Here, I will share several methods to handle this situation, along with important considerations based on your specific scenario:
1. If all team members have completed their work and synchronized their changes to the central model, you can detach the central file from the server. Make sure to keep the worksets, modify the necessary elements, and then save the file back to the server, replacing the original central file. However, this method has two main drawbacks:
- (1) The original workset owners will need to regain editing permissions.
- (2) If any user failed to synchronize their latest changes before this process, their work will be lost. Therefore, proceed with caution.
2. Alternative method:
A: Change the username in the Options dialog box to that of the colleague whose workset you want to edit.
B: Create a new local copy by opening the central file and saving it as a local file.
C: For the workset you cannot edit, release the editing permission, synchronize your changes, and then close the file.
D: Finally, switch the username in the Options dialog back to your own.
