BIM Software Tip: How to Create Opposite-Sex Curtain Walls in Revit
Recently, I was assigned a project that required creating a tilted curtain wall. However, the curtain wall embedded in the wall family only supports vertical orientation, which was quite frustrating. After consulting with colleagues, I discovered an alternative method to create curtain walls, including irregular shapes. I’d like to share this approach with you, using the example of drawing a hemispherical curtain wall.
1. Start by creating a hemispherical mass within Revit. This can be done directly in the software or by loading a pre-existing mass.
2. Navigate to the “Commonly Used” or “Massing & Site” tab in the options menu, where you will find the “Curtain Wall System” tool.
3. Select the hemispherical mass created in step 1, then click on “Create System” in the upper right corner.
By following these steps, you will have your hemispherical curtain wall ready. From there, you can customize the grid layout and add vertical mullions as needed to suit your design requirements.
