BIM Software Tip: Understanding Navisworks Widgets
Autodesk Navisworks provides widget-based tools that allow you to interact directly with 3D objects. The main types of widgets you will encounter include:
Transform Widgets: These allow you to translate, rotate, and scale objects globally, as if you were modifying the original CAD model. For more details, please refer to the section on transforming objects.
Animated Widgets: Used primarily for animation, these temporarily manipulate the transformation of objects. For guidance, see the instructions on operating geometric objects.
Splitting Widgets: These widgets help you operate profiles and profile boxes. For further information, consult the sections on moving and rotating sections, as well as enabling and using section boxes.
Each widget features three colored axes, and the angles between these axes correspond to the current camera viewpoint. Widgets behave like 3D objects, with their axes rotating along with your perspective. However, they are always displayed on top of the 3D scene and cannot be obscured by other objects. When you hover your mouse over an interactive part of a widget, the cursor changes to a hand icon, indicating it can be grabbed.
While using widgets, you can adjust the snap settings to control operation precision. To do this, click the large icon in the upper left corner and navigate to Options > Interface > Capture.
