Binus School is the first public facility within the newly developed town, known as the “Java Pearl” (POJ), which spans approximately 400-500 hectares. It serves as a foundational project for the future community. Currently, Binus University has also added several high school buildings to accommodate the needs of the aging population. Additionally, the Binus University campus is under construction and is scheduled to open in 2024.

The design of Binus School features a series of shell-shaped forms. These shells symbolize those carried ashore by waves and scattered across elevated sandy platforms along the beach and spillway. Upon completion, the campus will be surrounded by coastal gardens that provide shade and encourage the return of wild birds and other local wildlife to the area.

Natural ventilation is achieved through a secondary layer—the red clay windbreak made from Java soil. The curved, linear, shell-shaped buildings allow the sea breeze to flow smoothly between classrooms without turbulence. Outdoor sports facilities also benefit from the sea breeze moving from north to south. Initially, all roofs were intended to be green and covered with plants; however, due to poor soil conditions in the original marshland, structural limitations allowed only smaller green roof sections on campus.

The school has recently opened, so digital performance data is not yet available. However, features such as operable windows and a secondary windproof exterior wall allow for natural ventilation on cool, windy days, reducing the need for continuous air conditioning. The secondary windbreak also enables classrooms to use air conditioning systems with smaller BTU capacities, improving energy efficiency.
