The newly constructed Wuyi section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway stretches 309 kilometers. As a crucial part of the east-west Yangtze River high-speed railway corridor, it significantly contributes to the economic and social development of the regions it connects. Hanchuan East Station serves as a key stop along this route, handling passenger arrivals, departures, transfers, as well as boarding and alighting services. The railway yard is designed with two sets of four tracks, featuring one island platform (450 × 8 × 1.25m) and one side platform (450 × 8 × 1.25m).

General Site Plan of Hanchuan East Station
Located as the western gateway of Wuhan, Hanchuan is a vital part of Central China’s urban core, often called the “Pearl of Jianghan.” The city is renowned for its abundant lakes, canals, and extensive water networks, which have inspired the design concept of this station.
The new station building is situated south of the railway line, featuring a south plaza. The project is envisioned as a “smart western gateway” and part of a “green Hanchuan city,” aiming for integrated development of the station area. It leverages the spatial and resource aggregation benefits of high-speed rail stations to foster coordinated growth between the station and the city.

△ Site Plan
The station square incorporates ecological design principles, while the building’s smooth, flowing lines emphasize the station’s central role. Embracing the concepts of “comfortable waiting, refined service, and integrated space,” the design aims to create a “high-speed rail travel and living hall” that enhances passenger experience.

The name Hanchuan derives from the Han River, the largest tributary of the Yangtze River, which flows through the entire region. The intricate river network and vast waterways form the city’s most prominent natural landscape. This design draws inspiration from the concept of “layered waves and the water charm of Hanchuan,” maintaining a clean and elegant style typical of transportation architecture while expressing the essence of water culture through abstract forms.

△ Perspective Rendering
The overall form breaks traditional symmetry by adopting an asymmetric layout, featuring three flowing curves that define the building’s distinctive profile. This natural, interactive shape evokes the movement of water. The elegant, dynamic curves stretch horizontally, symbolizing the continuous and agile flow of water, while the varying lines reflect the speed and modernity of high-speed rail in the information age.

△ Perspective Rendering
The building’s facade features perforated aluminum sunshades that ripple like waves, preventing direct sunlight from hitting the waiting hall. Tall side windows allow for natural ventilation and lighting, reducing the risk of roof leaks. The design integrates ecological technology to create a sustainable, green station environment.

Hanchuan East Station prioritizes passenger experience through innovative design that emphasizes efficiency, convenience, and comfort. The station features a fully integrated transportation system, aligning with goals such as “transportation-led urban development” and “integration of production, stations, and cities.” As a gateway that reflects regional culture and the urban environment, Hanchuan East Station embodies the pride and aspirations of the local community, poised to become a catalyst for the city’s future growth.
