Crossing the Yangtze River Victory Park is situated downstream along the Nanjing section of the Yangtze River, directly opposite Qixia Mountain at the mouth of the Chizikou River, within the riverside area of Longpao New City. On April 21, 1949, this site marked the beginning of the Battle of Crossing the Yangtze River. The 34th Army of the People’s Liberation Army successfully crossed the river and landed in Qixia at locations such as Xiezikou. To commemorate this historic battle and serve the residents of the new city, the Longpao government initiated the park’s construction in 2020, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

The project spans approximately 4.4 hectares and includes a park, memorial hall, and landmark tower. The memorial hall covers 2,610 square meters, with a total construction area of 3,690 square meters. It houses historical exhibitions, themed displays, red-themed education, interactive participation areas, leisure spaces, offices, and more. Standing 14.8 meters tall, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Qixia Mountain and the Yangtze River from the cantilevered space on the second floor.
Adjacent to the memorial hall on the west side is the exhibition structure, facing the Fourth Yangtze River Bridge. Rising to 49.421 meters, it commemorates the historic victory of the Crossing of the Yangtze River Battle.

The park’s design makes use of the natural elevation changes at the site to create functional spaces through varied surface heights. Elevations, depressions, lifts, and cuts in the terrain evoke the spatial undulations of reed marshes, music platforms, sculptures, and memorial halls, integrating each functional area seamlessly into the reshaped landscape.

The memorial hall embodies the design concept of “cultivating the earth,” with the ground seemingly cracking open as the building emerges, rising gradually from the north to the south. The form resembles a wooden boat advancing towards Qixia Mountain and rushing straight to the river, symbolizing the boat of victory, the people’s boat, and the vessel of great rejuvenation.
This design pays homage to President Xi Jinping’s remarks during his visit to the Hefei Crossing of the Yangtze River Memorial Hall: “The victory of the Crossing of the Yangtze River was achieved by the people rowing small boats.”

Upon entering the memorial hall, visitors are greeted by a grand entrance hall and foyer beneath a massive triangular skylight. Proceeding into the main exhibition hall, they can experience immersive recreations of historical scenes set amidst the flames of war. On the second floor lies the Red Culture Exhibition Hall, offering sweeping views of Qixia Mountain and the Yangtze River. Continuing along the second-floor corridor leads to a virtual interactive exhibition hall, marking the end of the display.
Exiting the lobby on the first floor and circling to the cantilevered area, visitors can see Qixia Mountain across a slender river surface. The sunset’s glow filters through the cracks in the overhanging structure, reflecting on the gravel below. This progression from brilliance to dimness, dawn to brightness, guides visitors through the narrative of preparation for war, the river crossing, victory, and remembrance.
