The Pyramid Wooden House is situated in the Boxin District of Huanggang City, Hubei Province. It is part of the “World Nature Co Construction Plan,” which aims to develop a series of uniquely designed nature homes throughout the district.

These two pyramid-shaped wooden houses, nestled beneath a large roof, are located on a hillside blanketed by pine forests. The surroundings are peaceful and untouched by human activity. After a moment’s pause, one can only hear the gentle chirping of birds, the hum of insects, and the wind rustling through the pine branches. At night, darkness envelops the area completely. It is this sense of wilderness that inspired us to return to the essence of human dwellings—exploring how to create a feeling of security while living in the wild.

The wooden house’s design resembles a black pyramid, with a large roof that provides a strong sense of security in the natural environment. Inside the pyramid is Zhou Zheng’s attic bedroom. Half of the first floor serves as the living room and bathroom, while the other half under the roof functions as an outdoor terrace, offering a sheltered resting space protected from wind and rain. To enhance the feeling of security, the eaves are set at a low height of just 1.6 meters, making the structure feel intimate and within reach. This also creates a narrow natural view horizontally.

The pyramid measures 8 meters on each side with a vertex height of 6 meters. Its structure is crafted from glued laminated timber, with every irregular component and joint digitally designed and custom-made, enabling 100% prefabricated assembly. The large roof is constructed using original burnt wood to blend naturally with the environment, avoiding any abrupt visual impact. Set against the dim forest light, the pyramid wooden house adds an element of mystery to the dense woods. Despite its black exterior, the building is made entirely of warm natural wood, filling the air with its inviting scent. This project continues the tradition of natural construction, preserving every tree on site and maintaining the original forest paths. All buildings are independently developed prefabricated wooden structures, assembled collaboratively by the team and users.

Pyramid – From Small to Big

The Pyramid Hut originally emerged from an international natural construction festival. During a time when people were deeply affected by the pandemic, a community of friends came together to build a commemorative installation. In the summer of 2021, they created a meditation space called the Black Pyramid. The completed structure was widely cherished; those who helped build it felt it was ceremonial and offered a profound sense of security.

When the opportunity arose to build a wooden house in the dark forest, the pyramid concept naturally came to mind. By increasing its size, reinforcing its materials, and carefully designing the scale to immerse inhabitants, the pyramid wooden house evolved into a completely new wilderness dwelling.

Every World – Small House, Big Dream

Every World is dedicated to promoting a return to natural living through sustainable construction methods. The Elf House continues this experiment in natural wilderness living, challenging conventional ideas about size by focusing instead on the relationship between living behaviors and the environment. The spatial design intentionally diverges from everyday experiences, even approaching a sense of paranoia.

Living small brings people closer to the materials and heightens their sensitivity. Since we are in the forest, why not spend a day barefoot, listening to the sound of dry leaves crunching beneath your feet on the terrace?

Natural architecture can be assembled like Lego blocks. The small house is positioned in the forest like a building block. We adhere to primitive and wild wooden construction techniques, personally firing carbonized wooden boards for the exterior façade. The wooden house is connected entirely with small metal components, allowing for repeated assembly.
