Oversized and authentic, the “Sweets Bank SWEETS BANK” project is a must-visit destination for dessert lovers. Designed as an “urban super-large reception room,” this social media-friendly venue features oversized tables and chairs, embodying the corporate slogan of Shunkado: “We hope people can share desserts with their families at the dining table.” In today’s social media era, a single photo can instantly capture hearts, and the building’s striking image serves as a powerful attraction that draws visitors and creates memorable experiences shared worldwide.

To meet the expectations of global visitors, the architects enlarged the tables and chairs by 13 times, exploring unique architectural quality and form. They believe that crafting furniture-shaped buildings with dedication and authenticity is key to creating lasting value. This concept has benefited both the town and Chunhuatang by maximizing visual appeal and advertising impact. The final design reflects a thoughtful discussion on how the building can contribute to the long-term development of the urban landscape and corporate activities. As a result, this compact yet iconic venue presents buildings that face the world, offering visitors exciting and unique experiences.

The building features two main components: a large furniture-shaped canopy providing shade and shelter, and a glass box designed for comfort. The oversized tables and chairs closely resemble actual furniture, overcoming structural, decorative, drainage, and electromechanical challenges to create a “new reality” that enhances the urban landscape and catches the eye. While the furniture-shaped canopy is visually detailed, the glass box contrasts with a more abstract design and simple details.

The “super large living rooms” concept transforms buildings into iconic urban landmarks—places where families gather and guests are warmly invited. To help first-time visitors quickly understand and feel at home in the space, the design of the tables and chairs is inspired by the layouts of Chunhuatang Cafe, local shops, and the Hamamatsu Iwata Shinkin Bank in Hamamatsu City. This community-centered building fosters connections between residents and tourists, injecting vitality into the city.

Following its official completion and opening during the pandemic, the building’s social media presence grew rapidly. Chunhuatang’s “dessert bank” became a featured location in Hamamatsu City’s tourism promotional videos.
