The High Performance Medical Device Innovation Center (IHM Innovation Center), designed by Haiyin Architecture, is situated on the vibrant International Bio Island in Guangzhou, within the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. This R&D center is outfitted with state-of-the-art research laboratories, interactive communication areas, and collaborative office spaces, all dedicated to advancing innovative high-performance medical devices.

Haiyin Architecture’s design features a distinctive X-shaped floor plan that efficiently maximizes the site’s potential. The two wings of the “X” house laboratory and office spaces respectively, while the intersection serves as a communal public area. The laboratory wing utilizes a denser column grid, whereas the office wing adopts a wider grid to suit its functions.

The design allows natural light to penetrate deep into the building’s core, while each wing offers premium views of landscaped surroundings from multiple angles. The X-shaped structure features a curved inner concave corner, contrasting with the flat, squared outer edges, creating dynamic facade lines that enhance the visual appeal.

The IHM Innovation Center is composed of three elevated blocks separated by several terraces, which function as sky gardens. These double-height terraces introduce engaging spatial transitions between the blocks. The ground-level block accommodates public amenities such as a hall, exhibition space, demonstration laboratories, and a café. The middle block houses laboratories, conference rooms, and multifunctional halls. The top block is dedicated to office spaces.
