Leading Organizations Unite to Host the 2022 China Rail Transit Development Summit

Previously, the Ministry of Transport released a brief report on urban rail transit operations for August 2022. As of that month, 278 urban rail transit lines were open and operating across 51 cities, covering a total of 9,098 kilometers. The actual number of train operations reached 2.97 million, carrying 1.96 billion passengers with an inbound flow of 1.17 billion. China has become the world’s largest center for subway construction and the leading market for rail transit technology and equipment.

With continuous expansion of rail lines and increasing passenger volume, China’s rail transit industry is experiencing rapid growth. However, it also faces challenges in network planning, technological innovation, construction implementation, and operational services.

To address these issues and promote healthy development of urban rail transit, the Urban Transportation Network, together with authoritative organizations such as the Urban Public Transport Branch of the Chinese Society of Civil Engineering, the Shandong Rail Transit Society, the Railway (Rail) Branch of the Jiangsu Comprehensive Transportation Society, and the Shenzhen Urban Rail Transit Association, will jointly host the 2022 China Rail Transit Development Summit Forum in Nanjing from November 23 to 24.

Alongside the main forum, there will be several themed forums including the Regional Intercity and Suburban Railway Development Forum, Rail Transit Intelligent Operation and Maintenance Forum, Underground Engineering and Tunnel Technology Application Seminar, and the Tunnel Operation Management and Disaster Prevention and Reduction Technology Forum.Authoritative organizations collaborate to create the 2022 China Rail Transit Development Summit Forum

Leading Organizations Drive Urban Rail Transit Construction

As a highly influential event in the rail transit industry, the forum will focus on the theme “Smart Rail Transit, Diligent Action for the Far Future.” It plans to invite academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, government regulators, leaders and experts from rail transit construction and operation units, specialists from research institutes, planning and design firms, consulting and supervision units, as well as representatives from rail transit industry enterprises.

Members of these authoritative organizations will attend collectively, leveraging their expertise in key areas across the entire urban rail transit lifecycle—from planning and design to construction and operation. Their goal is to comprehensively promote rail transit development and support the healthy growth of urban transportation.Authoritative organizations collaborate to create the 2022 China Rail Transit Development Summit Forum

Technological Innovation Driving Industry Advancement

China’s rail transit industry is currently transitioning from rapid expansion to a new phase characterized by efficiency, intelligence, and high-quality development. To align with this trend, the 2022 China Rail Transit Development Summit Forum and its affiliated sessions will emphasize innovative technologies in rail transit.

The event will feature in-depth exchanges and sharing of experiences on high-quality development, technological innovation, and solutions to current challenges in urban rail transit and urban railways. Concurrently, the ARTS International Advanced Rail Transit Technology Exhibition will take place, showcasing the full rail transit industry chain. This exhibition aims to foster an ecological circle for the rail transit industry, promoting industrial exchanges, cooperation, business opportunities, and win-win outcomes.Authoritative organizations collaborate to create the 2022 China Rail Transit Development Summit Forum

Introducing Our Partner Organizations

The success of the 2022 China Rail Transit Development Summit Forum relies heavily on the support and efforts of our partner organizations. Below is an introduction to some of these key collaborators, along with thanks for their outstanding contributions in rail transit construction.

Railway (Rail) Branch of Jiangsu Comprehensive Transportation Society
Established in February 2018, the Railway (Rail) Branch operates under the Jiangsu Comprehensive Transportation Society. It receives business guidance from the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology, industry guidance from the Provincial Department of Transportation, and oversight from the Provincial Department of Civil Affairs.

The branch has established equipment enterprise associations, engineering professional committees, and expert advisory committees. It engages with over 100 member units, including management institutions, research institutes, universities, state-owned enterprises, and private key enterprises in Jiangsu Province’s railway (rail) industry.

As an important social force promoting scientific and technological progress in railways and urban rail transit, the branch aligns with the provincial government’s strategic deployment focusing on smart, green, and safe transportation development. Its activities include academic exchanges, policy research, technology standardization, expert consultation, and member services.

Over the past four years, the branch has hosted or participated in more than 10 large-scale events, such as the Yangtze River Middle and Lower Reaches Shield Tunnel Technology Summit, the 5th International Rail Transit Purple Gold Forum, and the China High-Speed Railway Bridge Engineering Innovation Technology Forum. It has led or contributed to over 10 research projects on high-speed rail development strategies and integrated rail transit planning in the region. The branch has also been active in developing more than 20 group standards and organizing evaluations for awards like the China Railway Society Science and Technology Award.

Shenzhen Urban Rail Transit Association
After nearly 20 years of rapid rail transit construction from 1998 to 2015, Shenzhen’s rail network continued to expand both in operating and construction mileage. To enhance construction management, the Shenzhen Municipal Government established a professional association in June 2015, led by Zhao Penglin, Deputy Commander in Chief of Rail Transit Construction and Deputy Secretary General of the Government.

The association, with Shenzhen Metro and China Railway as major founders, is currently the only local 5A-level professional social organization in China’s rail transit industry. It includes nearly 100 member units, covering the entire rail transit industry chain—planning, design, engineering, manufacturing, research, operation management, and maintenance services.

The association focuses on attracting talent worldwide and advancing rail transit development. It has built an international think tank for the Shenzhen-Hong Kong rail transit, integrating top-tier experts and projects domestically and internationally. The think tank maintains the largest expert group in the industry, with nearly a thousand experts registered, including 20% professor-level senior engineers and 80% deputy senior engineers.

Experts are categorized into seven major fields: planning and design, civil engineering, vehicle engineering, electromechanical and information technology (including equipment), investment and financing, operation management, and property management. These cover specialties such as engineering economics, cost management, bridges, tunnels, shield tunneling, signaling, ticketing, and property development.
