Viewpoint Vegetable House is the second location launched by the tea brand POINT, situated in the Double Creation Park of Jianye District, Nanjing. Building on the tea-focused services of its predecessor, Viewpoint Tea Room, this new space introduces a restaurant component dedicated to healthy, high-quality vegetarian cuisine.
The design team approached the space as a vital expression of the brand’s spirit, maintaining the flexible and open atmosphere seen in Viewpoint Tea Room. Their goal was to foster a setting that encourages social interaction while embodying the brand’s simple aesthetic philosophy.
Continuing the theme of “settlement” from the tea room, the design team structured the space into distinct blocks to create a “natural community” within the city. By opening up the exterior facade and framing the space with steel structures, they established a layered, double-height spatial order that connects the existing building framework seamlessly. The integration of landscaping with the interior enhances a harmonious contrast between preserved historical textures and modern materials.
Reflecting the brand’s emphasis on simple aesthetics, the entire space is shaped by its environment. It embraces the social lifestyle of young consumers through a flexible, open approach, integrating the brand’s vision for a better urban life. By innovating tea culture and vegetarian aesthetics, the design reimagines nature to create a poetic space that connects with everyday life.
The varying floor levels form natural public seating areas, while the original pine and birch wood floors enhance the outdoor ambiance. The first floor dining layout features a mix of scattered seats and private booths, designed to accommodate diverse dining preferences. Upstairs, private rooms dominate the second floor, connected by corridors symbolized as “bridges,” reinforcing the spatial connection and meaning.
At the east end of the second floor, a roasted tea area innovatively extends the tea service, creating an open-air atmosphere that adds an engaging new dimension to the dining experience.
Using steel frames as the structural base, combined with brick and wood materials and sunlight as a natural element, the space creates an inclusive and peaceful environment. This design stimulates multiple senses and encourages interaction between guests and the environment.
Viewpoint Vegetable House is dedicated to exploring the relationship between people, their environment, and nature within an urban context. Through its restaurant experience, it honors nature and inspires visitors to embrace a simpler, more mindful way of living.
