This project combines the original post-war building with contemporary extensions, linked by a walkway that seamlessly transitions between the old and new structures. The bold geometric shapes in the floor plan promote versatile functionality. The dynamic interaction between the two main volumes clearly defines functional zones while managing the potential chaos of family living.

The children’s area is housed within the original structure, while the parents’ private retreat and the communal living spaces occupy the new extension. A transparent walkway connects these two zones and offers views of the street. The standout feature is a finely crafted wooden unit that encourages movement and exploration between different areas.

The simple yet thoughtful decorative palette reflects the building’s character. The use of pottery preserves Brisbane’s heritage in a non-traditional way, blending nostalgia with regional uniqueness. Various openings and textures provide glimpses of the surrounding terracotta rooftops, creating a captivating interior atmosphere.

The kitchen island draws inspiration from the Arts and Crafts movement, reflecting its balanced form and commitment to craftsmanship. This ethos is continued through the use of clay wrapping, adding tactile warmth and texture.
