Typically, doors and windows can only be placed within walls. But what if you need to add doors or windows in locations where there are no walls? The solution is simple: just delete the attached main wall.

For example, let’s take a sliding window and enter its family editing environment.

In the Project Browser, double-click the family, then double-click the wall to open the basic wall settings.

Right-click on Wall 1 and select “Copy”.

Next, delete the original Wall 1 and click “OK”.

Then, load the family back into the project and choose to overwrite the existing version.

At this stage, the window can be placed independently, detached from any main wall. Let’s verify and finalize the placement.
