This single-story house is situated in a residential neighborhood in southern Jakarta, Indonesia, occupying a narrow strip of land. While its exterior may appear tight and unusual, the interior offers a genuine sense of space. Sunlight streams through the wooden grille above the main entrance, illuminating the foyer and the inner courtyard beyond. This transitional entryway softens the boundary between the outside world and the home’s living spaces.

The residence centers around three main rooms: the living room, dining room, and master bedroom, each offering direct views of the courtyard. The living and dining areas are designed as open spaces, featuring sliding doors that enhance airflow and seamlessly connect the interior with the outdoors. Despite the narrow site, the design aims to provide a comfortable and enjoyable living experience for the family.

The entire house is designed for optimal natural ventilation, maximizing air circulation and daylight. The distinctive tall tower on the facade not only adds character but also serves a functional role for ventilating the laundry room through the chimney effect. Behind the curved, half-moon-shaped concrete surface lies the kitchen, which features large windows to promote ventilation and disperse cooking odors. This concrete tower also blocks views from the street, enhancing privacy. Airflow and human scale are fundamental elements of this design.

This home’s design is strongly influenced by the familiar semi-circular arc. This motif appears not only on the exterior facade but is also echoed throughout the interior and furniture. As a result, the house and its interiors feel wrapped in curves, lending a sense of fluidity to the otherwise tight space. This approach transforms an unfamiliar environment into a welcoming one.
