In Sydney’s densely populated urban areas, most children live in apartments. Ultimo Public Elementary School has innovatively relocated classrooms to gardens and outdoor terraces, fostering a stronger connection between children and nature.

This modern school embraces advanced teaching methods, featuring flexible learning spaces that emphasize the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor environments. Its multifunctional areas encourage both students and teachers to explore diverse educational opportunities.

Taking advantage of the site’s steep terrain, the school is designed as a tiered platform structure. To optimize space, all terraces and rooftops have been converted into gardens or playgrounds, ensuring that every teaching area has direct access to outdoor spaces.

Each play area is uniquely themed to suit its specific purpose. The facility also welcomes local community members, transforming the school into a lively community space even after school hours.
